Hello, I’m Dawn from Las Vegas, Nevada.
A bustling city of lights surrounded by dry desert, stunning mountains, and adaptive flowers. Bearing its trademarked nickname of “Sin City”, its inhabitants have had to adapt and thrive in spite of harsh living conditions. Being from a small town, my dad used to say that nothing good happens in Vegas. I have to admit that after years of living here, I was beginning to think he was right.
I have been married to a wonderful man, Steve, for thirty-plus years. We have three adult children, two sons, and a daughter.
Two of my children, my husband, and my father all struggled with addiction in one form or another. If you met me in person, I’m sure you would wonder how I turned out so well (ha! kidding) but the truth is, after years of dealing with addiction, I came to a place where I was tired and broken.
My relationship with the Lord felt strained due to the constant stress I was under. I was so focused on fixing my family that I did not see how burned out I was spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
I believed the lie that if my children would “just get better”, I could be happy again. If it were only that simple. Trying to hold the pieces of my life together on my own wasn't working. Fast forward - God had to make some serious changes in me before I would find peace and happiness again.
With determination, the Lord's grace, and the help of some very special people, I have come a long way on my journey to find healing. God’s love and direction was the water in the desert I so desperately needed to flourish.
Hence, The Faith to Flourish was born.
You know what’s interesting about the desert flower? It needs only the smallest amount of water and survives in the harshest of climates. Some desert cacti will only bloom once a year at night. These flowers are full of wonder and mystery, a rare treat to the eyes, cherished treasures.
Likewise, in the Garden of the Kingdom of Heaven there is everything from year-round rainforest blooms to seasonal herbs to that desert flower. Rare. Resilient. Blooming only when the conditions are right.
The Faith to Flourish was birthed out of my addiction journey and a desire to help other women who are hurting because of their struggling loved ones.
In the Garden, we are the desert flower. Much like living in the desert, addiction in our families can feel like a desolate wasteland seemingly void of God, but Jesus is the wellspring of life. He will give us the nourishment we need to store His lovingkindness in our roots in the middle of our lonely places.
“…Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” John 7:37-38 (CSB)
Professionally, I have worked in the medical field, primarily with female patients, for over twenty years. I have also served in women’s ministry in various teaching and leadership capacities for almost thirty years. Both opportunities have given me invaluable perspective into the hearts and lives of women. My passion is teaching and equipping women to live victorious lives of faith.
I recently co-authored a workbook with my friend, Valerie Silveira called, “Still Standing After All the Tears Workbook- Faith in the Battle Edition”. I am grateful to have found help through her books and honored she asked me to be a part of it. You can purchase a copy on Amazon.com.
Here we are, ladies. I told you a little bit about myself and hope to learn about you along the way. I pray your faith will flourish and you will as well. Let our journey begin…
