Have you ever experienced news that rocked your world? The sudden death of a loved one, marital infidelity, or a job loss are just a few examples of life-altering events. Addiction entered our lives unexpectedly. The news that our son was using drugs caught us completely off guard. In shock, we were unprepared to handle the situation. We needed help if we were going to survive this assault on our family. We need to learn how to pray when our family was under spiritual attack.

Believe for the freedom for our families. When I considered the opposition I face as the parent of someone who struggles with addiction and mental illness, I came to the desperate realization that I need a Contender mightier than these forces of evil waging war against my child and my family.

This week I made the mistake of trying to take a knife to a gunfight. The Lord had to remind me of the unseen spiritual battle we are engaged in as we live with addiction or other strongholds in our families. We fight and plead and beg and threaten as we try to fight this very spiritual battle with physical weapons. I learned when it comes to fighting for my family, I had to choose my battles wisely.
